How to distinguish between a sensorless brushless motor and a sensorless brushless motor?

Induction brushless motors (Sensored BLDC Motor) and non-induction brushless motors (Sensorless BLDC Motor) are two different types of brushless motors, and they have some differences in perception and control.

The presence or absence of sensors

have a sense of brushless motor:

This motor is equipped with a sensor, usually a Hall-effect sensor or encoder. These sensors are used to detect the position of the rotor so that the electronic controller can accurately manipulate the current to control the movement of the motor. Sensors provide real-time rotor position information to help ensure smooth motor operation.

no sense brushless motor:

This motor has no additional sensors, but relies on an electronic controller to estimate the position of the rotor by observing the waveform of the motor phase current and voltage. This is called the electrical back electromotive force (Back EMF) method, which monitors the current and voltage changes of the motor to infer the rotor position, thereby realizing the control of the motor.

Advantages and disadvantages

have a sense of brushless motor:

Due to the real-time sensor information, such motors usually have better performance at low speeds and high loads. However, sensors may introduce additional cost, complexity, and the possibility of failure.

no sense brushless motor:

This motor relatively simplifies the motor system, reduces the use of sensors, thereby reducing cost and improving reliability. However, there may be control uncertainties at low speeds and high loads.

Application areas

have a sense of brushless motor:

It is often used in applications that require higher performance and response time, such as electric vehicles, industrial drives, and some precision instruments.

no sense brushless motor:

Due to its simplified structure and lower cost, it is often used in applications with relatively low performance requirements, such as consumer electronics, household appliances and low-end industrial applications.

When choosing a sensorless brushless motor or a sensorless brushless motor, you need to consider the specific requirements of the application, cost budget, and performance expectations. Some applications may be more suitable for using an induction motor, while others may be more suitable for using a non-induction motor.
